Happy Centennial, AKA
The commute in was a bit crowded today. It turns out that Alpha Kappa Alpha is celebrating their centennial with a visit to Washington. And not just any part of Washington, but our metro stop. I think they were massing for a march, but I’m not sure about that. I’m afraid those who had to drive today may have been a bit annoyed by the closing of Pennsylvania Avenue. (There was also something going on across the mall that forced the closure of Constitution Avenue — that seemed less planned as the police were less friendly there.
But I thought the minor disruption was worth it since it gave the segway truck (that’s what I call it, anyway) a reason to stop long enough for me to get a photo. I’m not sure it really is a three wheel segway, but it looks like one. I’ve watched this guy patrolling a section of the Smithsonian for a while now. We’ve also seen a couple commuters downtown on the standard two wheel version.
