“Flowers”
last update: 04/26 @ 17:15
Robert and Justin share a similar sense of gardening, maybe. Justin and I were talking about weeds and Liz pointed out that weeds are flowers that have been fired. So Justin said that means if he doesn’t “fire” the dandelions, they aren’t weeds. I couldn’t argue with that. Nor could I argue with how much fun Robert had running through his dandelion “store.”

That kind of day…
last update: 04/20 @ 17:26

It was just the kind of day that cried out for jumping in puddles. After getting some dry clothes after our expedition, Robert liked the picture on the right the best. I liked the lower photo better — but that’s just me.

This puddle behind the blue park benches was just big enough that walking around, his pants got wet. Once the pants were wet (a little bit wet) it was easy to go ahead and slide down the slide (to get them really wet before heading home — of course, we found a few more puddles on the way back).

It’s a small price to pay, but the storms that gave us the cool puddles also seem to have knocked out our Internet connection several times throughout the day.

Scuba Robert!!!
last update: 04/18 @ 19:39
I’m not sure where it came from, but Robert decided to be a scuba diver this afternoon. With no prompting he picked out an air tank (Sponge Bob scoccer ball) and mask (tupperwear) to wear. We do get a couple scuba magazine that he has looked through, and there was the Christmas present for Sarah’s dad last Christmas. Either way, I don’t know of any recent events that might explain why today turned into scuba day.

Robert was having fun and that’s what is important, after all.

Carousel
last update: 04/17 @ 21:09
I picked Robert up a bit early after the “Springfest” fun at his daycare. That meant we had time to go by the Smithsonian Carousel again. Always a nice treat. Today, we were able to get on the seahorse! (Hard to see in the photo, I know.) I guess he’ll be ready to hold on by himself by the end of summer.

Mystery Solved…
last update: 04/17 @ 21:06
I’ve been wondering what was making the especially odd sound on the railroad tracks behind the house. This morning I caught the culprit. They are spreading new gravel along the tracks and this is the contraption that smooths the gravel out.

Sunflower
last update: 04/16 @ 10:59
We like the guy who runs the flower stand we pass in the mornings. Robert was admiring the sunflowers when the flower man took one out of a bunch, trimmed it nicely and handed it to Robert as a present. That really made his day. I thought he might want to give it to one of his teachers to put in water, but he wanted to keep it in his cubby for share time.

When we got into the building, Robert wanted to show his sunflower the multicolor room. The neon doesn’t show up too well in this photo, but trust me, there are lots of neon tubes of different colors behind him.

Zip Drive purrs, “thank you,” to Sarah for the idea of screening in the porch.

Costume Party
last update: 04/13 @ 21:18
Robert went to Ella’s 4th birthday party today. The birthday season has started up again. This was a “princess, prince, dragon” themed party. Robert went as a knight — but it seemed like his costume needed a hat. The black bowler was an “interesting” option. For the record, he also had a purple crown, but chose the bowler instead.

The Aliens Have Arrived!!!
last update: 04/10 @ 15:54
The camera in my cell phone is not great, especially shooting at a very bright sky; however, I’m sure you can still make out the alien landing craft descending upon the patent and trademark building. I have no clue what is going on.

Water Taxi

I can’t let Sarah have all the blogging fun… There are some more photos from the day’s excursion in Robert’s section.

National Harbor Trip
last update: 04/07 @ 20:15

It was a cold drizzly Monday, what better day to test the new Alexandria to National Harbor links. We hopped on the free bus-trolley thing at the metro station, were whisked down to the waterfront where we caught the new water taxi. We went under the Wilson bridge and across the river to the new Harbor Place complex. Everything was on-time and mercifully un crowded. I especially enjoyed the river views and realized that we’ll have to take visitors on it. The National Harbor? It’s o.k. Still under construction – could as well be anywhere. But definitely a nice day trip. Thanks for the idea David. -Z

Another Weekend
last update: 04/05 @ 21:01

So, just another weekend, going to the hardware store, goofing around on the playground, that sort of thing. Robert helps out at Lowes -as long as we pause at the tractor mower display, and David? Well he takes great playground pictures too - lets nothing get in the way of a great shot. :) -Z
