The Minutes of the Annual Williams-Tyler Family Reunion, 2010

70th Reunion of the Williams-Tyler Families

Some twenty members of the Williams Tyler families met in reunion in the fellowship hall of Willow Swamp Baptist Church on Saturday, May 1, 2010. The meeting was called to order by president, Kellum Allen.

Ann Joye Allen Mullis gave a meaningful devotional based on Deuteronomy 8. We were reminded that everything we have and all of our world belong to God. A meaningful story followed relating the experience of a small child who reminded her mother that everything belongs to God and we should be willing to give all back to Him.

Jimmy Williams, treasurer, gave the following information on our finances. The reunion of 2009 showed a negative balance in the amount of $230.74. Collections for 2009 were $430. Stamps, postage, and county taxes account for expenditures amounting to $54.93. Donations were received to cover rent of the building, paper supplies and a thank-you check to Peggy Smith for doing the mailing this reunion.

A discussion ensued with input from many family members about the date of for the reunion. Several suggestions for change were discussed as family members were concerned that the attendance is decreasing. The group as a whole felt we should leave the meeting every year on the first Saturday in May. All present were encouraged to make their families aware of the meeting next year and a concerted effort will be made to notify everyone by either email or hard copy.

The family members reported the following:

Deaths:
Jean Proctor Day, daughter of Grace Williams Proctor and the late Gerald Proctor, died on March 26, 2010
Births:
Births are recorded in the private section of the site and the paper file copy of Williams/Tyler Reunions; they are not included in the public minutes for security reasons.
Marriages:
Michael Borgstedt, daughter of Kaye Williams Borgstedt and the late Dr. M. E. Borgstedt married Lacy Victoria Howard on December 5, 2009

Kellum asked each person to share with the group current information on their family members. Leland shared and email sent to him from John Tyler, son of the late Swift Tyler. He was unable to attend but sent greetings and interesting information which the group enjoyed.

Leland also took orders for pictures of the nine original siblings as well as for a painting done of the old Tyler's Landing on the Edisto River where the reunion was held for many years. The original painting, done by a former friend and minister of Wyman Williams, was located when David Williams and family were closing the Loren Williams home.

Officers for the 2011 year were elected by acclamation:

  • President — Bragg Williams
  • Secretary — Barbara Allen Coker/Jane Allen
  • Treasurer — Jimmy Williams

Following the blessing by Leland Williams the family gathered to enjoy a wonderful picnic lunch. After spending time catching up and reminiscing, the group left with plans to encourage more to attend the 2011 reunion.

Respectfully submitted,
Belva Bailey, Secretary.
