Go Green!!!, September 2009

After all the fun he had with T-ball this summer, Sarah found out that Alexandria was trying a kickball league for the kids too young for the little league teams. She is assistant coach of Robert's Green team. Robert's first thrill of the game was getting a uniform to wear. September 16, 2009.
September 16, 2009. Robert's T-ball experience served him well: he's got at least as good a handle on the game as any of the other kids out there. Of course, the whole idea is for the kids to have good time; that seems to be working out well. This is the initial practice session. We happened to share the practice field with the Blue team, who we played in our first game a couple days later.

That's Robert above playing first base and almost catching the ball in time to tag the base before the runner gets there. On the right is Robert going in to assist while the runner leaves second base. September 16, 2009.
September 16, 2009. Robert has a pretty good kicking foot (says the proud poppa). He's fast too. Evan, a couple photos down in the blue shirt and shorts, is from the original mommies group -- he's on the green team too but didn't have his shirt for the practice. (He's also a good kicker.)

Of course you can't just play kickball when they have all that great dirt there... Robert and Evan were working on a ball trap as the practice session was wearing down.

The clouds were gone and there was a clear blue sky for the Saturday game. The weather could not have been better. And all the kids seemed to be having lots of fun.

September 19, 2009. And I think the adults watching and coaching also were having a good time.

Robert liked playing catcher even if there were no desperate throws to home to stop a run. I think he liked the view from behind home plate. Clearly, this is going to be a fun season.
