Robert is getting over a nasty cold so only made a quick trip to Del Ray's Art on the Avenue today. Further proof that Robert is more than a year old, there are a couple photos from last year. The kinetic sculpture was there again this year, but Robert is still a bit young for bike riding and there weren't other kids riding it when we passed by. We did enjoy listening to the Mighty Spiritual Lights, and we tracked down Auntie Lisa, of Max and Zip Drive fame.

The next big October event was George Paine's Refenestration and Dedication party. George is a very intersting character; one shared interest is trains. One interest we don't share so much is AMC Pacers. Washington Grove is a lovely community in suburban Maryland that feels like a summer camp -- because it was a summer camp. And George was celebrating window repairs and general spiffing up of his house there with a naming ceremony for the house... (Blow-by-Blow details on the work are available on the blog.) October 2, 2005. There were lots of spectators, much good fun and conversation on and around the porch.

With little fan-fare George revealed the new name: bittersweet cottage. Some of us think more of Gingerbread when we see his house. October 2, 2005.

Robert seemed to enjoy the event, the location, the weather and meeting new friends. As they say, a great time was had by all.

Next up in October, a visit from Robert's grandparents for a train trip. And of course to visit. Each grandparent had the chance to try out Robert's house in his playroom -- he's happy to share.

While Robert's grandparents clearly enjoyed playing with him almost as much as he enjoyed their company, the "real" reason for their visit was chance to take a short trip on a steam train.
