Air and Space Museum -- February, 2008

February 25, 2008. Sarah took the train up to Long Island for a dinner with Michelle so Robert and I were bachelors for 36 hours. We decided it would be fun to go back to the Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center. It's big with long ramps (but the guards prefer if you don't run down them) and full of cool things to look at.
I printed out the map just in case, and to give Robert something to look at for part of the drive. In addition to the map on the page I printed, he noticed the picture of the kid putting on the glove from the space suit (which we now know is called an Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) and wondered if he'd be able to do that. Clearly, he did get the chance. February 25, 2008.
February 25, 2008. Robert usually finds a way to impress and surprise me every day (sometimes several times in a day). He got me on this trip when we were walking up to the Blackbird and he said, "That's the Blackbird." I asked how he knew that and he said it was in one of his books (All About Machines). I can't remember the last time we read that book.
We liked this plane (La Cucaracha) just because of the size: not much bigger than Robert. February 25, 2008.
February 25, 2008. And this one has a big "R" for Robert on it. We didn't talk about why the Enola Gay is famous.
Next time, we have to take Sarah, who still has not been to this museum. February 25, 2008.
