USCGC Eagle

The Coast Guard’s Eagle paid a visit to Alexandria today.

Being a holiday, they opened the bridge at 8:00 in the morning rather than in the middle of the night.

It was a lot of fun to watch the bridge open, the fire boat doing it’s welcome thing and the Eagle came through.

In what was clearly a smart move, they arrived under motor rather than sail power.

There was plenty of room for the ship to get through the bridge.

But it has to harrowing to try something like that under sail — there is little margin for error.

Making this visit extra fun: Steve and Helen are visiting. So they walked down with me to watch the excitement.

We were not the only ones :)
