NotesFor a number of years, I kept updates after the 1981 update both in place within the book and in a separate file. I was following the pattern of the 1981 update being separate even though I also included the update in place. As of July 2010, I'm retiring that practice. At the good suggestion from Leland, I will, however, track when future updates are made and the source. That's the purpose of this file.
7/20/2010, email from Leland: BTW, my work, after vetting by agents for each family branch, will result in two descendant trees and two genealogical narrative reports like the Hendry ones you have already mounted. Perhaps they can be on Kayakero one day. Thanks, Leland (Click on the images below for a larger version. As of 8/16/2010 I've not incorporated these in the main body, but will when time permits.) | |

I removed this outdated line from the original: 9/24/2010, email from Leland:
H. Williams This is, undoubtedly, his grave. If so, then he died the same day he was wounded, for according to the above interview, "On October 19, 1864, came the catastrophe at Cedar Creek." In 1990, the then 16 living great grandchildren of Hiram Williams paid $10 each to re-furbish and correct Hiram's badly eroded (125 years) tombstone. The tombstone was engraved on its reverse side with same info as above, except that his company designation was changed to read "Co. I20 S.C." and "H." was replaced with "HIRAM" It was re-installed with refurbished side forward. His grave is on the 2nd row, # 6 to the left from the right hand border just behind the stone marker inscribed:

I removed this line: 10/29/2010, email from Steve Tyler to Al Brodie and Leland I'm in Orangeburg this weekend and I'm spending some time doing a little research. I spent a few hours at the University this morning looking over the Bessie Garvin Collection. It was interesting (very) but I did not find what I was looking for. It looks like once she decided that Darling S. Tyler had moved to Texas, she dropped any research concerning his wife and children. Anyway, I found this (by accident) this morning and thought I'd pass it on. Hope you all are well, Steve http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sclexing/records/willow.htm P.S. Al, I talked to my Daddy about granddaddy's middle name (Sally), but he had no idea but suggested that there was a connection to the Sally family. I'm still working on the getting the rest of my linage together. Steve 10/19/2010, email exchange between Leland and Steve Tyler: (Based on the following exchange, I removed this outdated line from the original mention of Darling Swift Tyler in The Williams and Tyler Families: The date of his death is not known.)Stephen, great to hear from you via Al Brodie. I have just checked my FTM and found that all I had for Darling Swift Tyler was his birthdate. Since you had the same birthdate for him, I have now entered your deathdate for him and wife and four children, all attributed to you. Darling Swift Tyler was one of 11 children of William Tyler, Jr. and Ann Bennett Tyler. Two brothers born just before him were Thomas Bennett (27 Aug 1820) and Levy Silvestor (08 Dec 1823). Al Brodie's family comes from Thomas Bennett and my family from Levy Silvestor. My father, Wyman Loren Williams was a grandson of Levy Silvestor Tyler. He researched and published a family history in 1980 entitled "The Williams and Tyler Families." You will find a "living version" of this book (maybe you have already found it) at http://www.kayakero.net/per/gen/brief_record/br_toc.html. My nephew, David Williams maintains this website. There are three main sections, Williams, Tyler, and Willow Swamp Baptist Church. Suggest you read Section Six, which begins with The Early Days of the Tyler Family and Section Eight,Willow Swamp Baptist Church. I briefly thought I had a hit for you near the end of that section when I read a reference to Brother B.B. Wiliams and Brother D.S. Tyler, but the chronology makes it clear that D. S. Tyler is Daniel Swift Tyler, not Darling Swift Tyler. Daniel Swift Tyler is the son of Levy Silvestor Tyler who married Janie Williams, while Daniel's sister, Catherine Annie Elizabeth Tyler married Braxton Bragg Williams. These two couples are seen today as the matriachs/patriachs of the Williams and Tyler Families. My father's book is dedicated to them and their photos from the book are in David's website at http://www.kayakero.net/per/gen/brief_record/index.html Best wishes, Leland
----- Original Message ----- Mr. Bordie, My name is Steve Tyler and I live in Chespeake, Virginia but was born in raised in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Lately I have been doing research on my family. I came upon the Williams and Tyler site and studied with much interest. Your name came to my attention through my reading of this history I am pretty sure that Darling Swift Tyler (Feb 16, 1826 - Sept 24, 1864) is my Great Great Great Grandfather but I have not been able to find much more except that he was married to Mary R??, had 4 children (Elizabeth, William (Swift?) Sarah and Aelich?), and was a Captain in the CSA (S.C. volunteers). He should be buried at the Willow Swamp Baptist Church cemetary but I have not found any record of that. If you have any other information that you could share it would be must appreciated.
Thank you for your time,
---------- Forwarded message ---------- Al, It was good to hear from you. Okay, here is my story. In the 1860 Census, D.S. Tyler was shown to be 34 years old. Since Darling Swift was born 1826 and is the only D.S. Tyler I could find in Orangeburg at that time, I have to assume that this is he. Here is the Info (http://www.archive.org/stream/populationschedu1224unix#page/n325/mode/1up). By the way, Levi is listed on page n316.
William is, I believe, William Swift Tyler who was my Great Great Grandfather. His birth year corresponds with the birth date (5 May 1848) that I was given by my Uncle George (deceased). I have misplaced some notes so I'm not sure of the death date (I'll have it shortly). William Married Portia S Fogle (b. 6 Nov 1849 d. 26 Mar 1927.) They had 2 children.
Mary Ann married Artis R Bates b. 29 Sept 1876 d. Feb 1923. They Had 2 Children.
William Sylvester Tyler Married Eva McMichael and had 6 Children. As an aside, I was lucky enough to know my Great Grandmother very well.
William Salley Tyler married Frances Fogle and had three children
Anyway, that is how the family line goes. More information on Darling Swift. I found D.S. Tyler Listed in a book from the South Carolina Department of Archives and History name "Roll of the Dead - South Carolina Troops Confederate States Service" Regiment 1st SC Arty - Sept 15 '64 - Congestion fever --------- A couple of links
By the way, On the Williams and Tyler website it is stated that D.S. Tyler went to Texas. This is obviously not true. I do remember my Grandfather talking about some family member that did go to Texas after the war (between the states). I ran across the name during my research but did not note it. I'm sure I'll find it again. Thanks a lot Al. Let me know what you think. By the way, do you know when the next Williams/Tyler reunion will take place? Steve | |

11/21/2010, email from Leland David, these pics would be a great addition to the family website. (Click on the images for a larger version or prepend "big_" to the file name for an even bigger version: www.kayakero.net/per/gen/brief_record/graphics/big_braxton_catherine.jpg). |

The note which I forwarded in 2004 about a possible connection between Theophilus Williams and Lieutenant James Williams of Revolutionary War fame at Kings Mountain should be removed as such connection has been disproved by DNA evidence per following report. Thanks, Leland
----- Forwarded Message ----- The James Williams who died at King Mountain (actually Col or Gen. Williams) is no kin to us as my DNA does not match his decendents or records of his family. There is a book written on his life and a chapter of the DAR named after him in Edgefield. There are, however, other Williams' who do match my DNA and with the info given on your "Odem/Williams" conection from Edgefield I will attempt to use their family history to find an Edgefield link. I will see you at Willow Swamp in May. Jimmy And so I've removed the following from The Early Days of the Williams Family:
"Lieutenant James Williams was of welch descent, and died in battle of Kings Mountain while
leading his command in the Revolutionary War. My records show that James had only one son,
Theophilus who was born Dec 6, 1777. Theophilus married Lydia who was born on May 13, 1788."
There follows a listing of children of Theophilus and Lydia; the listing is the same as in
Wyman's book except for a different birth date for John Williams (corrected in writing by
Burrell, I presume) and two minor spelling discrepancies. Anna is looking for info on Lt.
James Williams. Her e-mail address is included. 5/10/2010, email from Glenn T. Williams Hi David, this information is provided to update/correct information on June Lynn Williams/Priester/Fanning. June Lynn was born April 13, 1963. She now resides at 383 Great View Road, Neeses, SC 29107. Her first born son was Tyler Aubrey Priester, born April 22, 1985. Tyler was just recently married to Lindsey Gardner Brown, February 26, 2011 Lindsey was born August 06, 1985. They reside at 100 Saint Benets Place, Summerville, SC 29485. June's second son, Braxton Allen Fanning, was born April 19, 1993, and still resides with his mother and father in Neeses, SC. David, I think this brings all of my famlies information up to date. If you have questions, just e-mail me. Thanks, Glen T. Williams Based on that note, I removed this final line from the second paragraph about Glen and Linda's daughters, "Both are now attending public schools. "
