Tuscany 2005 -- Part 3: Montecarlo

Montecarlo is another town close to our home base. It has a commanding view of the countryside from it's hilltop location -- no doubt a strong reason for the castle the town surrounds. On our first trip to Montecarlo (Tuesday June 28), the castle was closed, so we went back again July 4.

The typical narrow, cobblestone streets were a bit of challenge both to Robert's walking, and our driving -- it really did feel like you were driving through someone's living room.

On our Tuesday trip, we stopped for a drink at about four. It was amazing to see the town come back to life from it's very quite, sleepy state of earlier in the afternoon. We had to be careful not to lean back in our chairs when cars came by because they were so close. Of course, we had lots of folks to hold on to Robert to make sure he stayed close by.

Our visit the following Monday was really for dinner at Stefanini's just down the hill from the castle. But we arrived early enough to make a quick run through the castle before sitting down to do a very nice meal. And it was such a nice meal, we decided to return to Stefanini's for our farewell and birthdays (David Z, Ian, Robert) dinner July 7.
