Christmas 2025

Play slide show — just for looking at the pictures.

Robert didn't have enough time over Thanksgiving to come home but his Christmas break was more generous. Our local Christmas tree lot was down to overly large and starting to look tired trees before he arrived so Sarah and I picked a nice tree from the nursery up the street. With Robert's help, we decorated it and enjoyed that addition to the house.

Panzer also enjoyed the tree while he was keeping watch for any stirring mice :)

Robert set up Panzer's treat train on the Monday before Christmas. Panzer took a couple minutes to remember how this works, but then made quick work of the treats from the train.

On the 23rd we headed in to DC to check out the trains at the Botanic Garden. They do always do a fun show with the trains and the model buildings made from plant material.

We timed that visit pretty well, catching some sunset colors outside before we went in to check out the gardens and model buildings. This has been a frequent Christmas tradition when we're in Alexandria — going back to Robert's early days.

Then we walked by the Capitol on our way to the traditional holiday hockey game.

The house started out quiet on Christmas morning. Stockings hung and filled. Presents under the tree. Panzer sleeping somewhere.

And then the grand reveal...

Robert got this cool McLaren F1 mug. Sarah got AquaSox socks. Robert got an Instax camera, just like old school polaroids. David got an Evergreen Geoducks shirt. Sarah got an AquaSox hat. David got an eInk digital frame.

Reflecting our recent trip up to the Bay of Funday, Robert gifted us an excellent tent repair kit in case we run into pole troubles in the future (and we replaced our car camping tent).

Then it was time for some football napping :) — the Commanders lost to the Cowboys — before Sarah's traditional, most excellent Chirstmas goose dinner.

Sadly, Sarah started to feel a bit unwell and tested positive for flu (better than Covid) the day after Christmas. Robert started to get a cold a day or so later (his flu/Covid test was negative). So there was good reason for a bit of a nap during the Pop Tart Bowl.

But no cold or flu could hold us back from the post-Christmas Lego build. These were fun to put together; there is something very satisfying about concentrating on putting a model together — not pictured is Sarah's camper van.

David gave both Sarah and Robert NOAA emergency radios (after watching a documentary about wild weather). That led to this blog post about how well they worked, even if not needed.

This was an odd-ending Christmas for us. David's Aunt Betty passed away in November and he and Sarah flew out for the Celebration of Life the day before Robert headed back to Seattle. It was a bit odd for us to say goodbye to him and head to the airport while he was staying home. But Panzer was happy to have the company for another day.
